3/8 Class notes:

Assigned Readings:
Unfortunately, I just don't know any good references (except for journal articles) for some of the things we're about to do in class. Here are some things to browse:
- Learn about dipole traps. Look through as much of the classic review paper by Ovchinnikov as you like (definitely peruse through the first 7 pages or so).
- The ion trap "bible". Try reading pages 265-267 to learn about stimulated Raman transitions. Be aware that this theory is being done for a trapped particle in the so-called "Lamb-Dicke limit"; we're going to start with free atoms, but which have infinite mass. You can check out pages 41-51 in Brian Kings' thesis for more detail
Lecture notes on the interaction of lights and atoms (quantum atom, classical light) and dipole traps (jnt, pdf, mht)
