I've broken down the pdf files for Corney (1,2,3), and Bransden and Joachain (1,2) on light and atoms into smaller chunks. You will need to use Acrobat 6.0 or 7.0 reader to look at them.

Assigned reading:

Look at Corney Chapter 9 (3). Try to think about how a semi-classical theory of light interacting with an atom is constructured (semi-classical in this context means that we have a quantum atom but classical light).
