Pick up your favorite quantum mechanics book and read about angular momentum and pertubation theory. I personally use Sakurai as a reference for this. I've picked some content off of the web in case you're at a loss for references. A classic reference on angular momentum in quantum mechanics (and a favorite of AMO physicists) is the book by M.E. Rose.
