Spring 2005
Course home page
The course structure consists of reading, lectures, discussion, and homework. There will also be two exams.
- I list reading first, because I expect you to do it before lecture. You'll
get a lot more out of lecture if you already have some idea what's going on. Reading
assignments for each week are listed in the Syllabus.
The texts and other books are described here.
- Lectures are Tu-Th 9:00 - 10:20 AM in 136 Loomis. I'll try to keep you awake.
- Each of you signed up for a discussion section (Tuesday 7-8 PM or Wednesday 8-9 PM)
in 143 Loomis. The primary focus will be to work on
problems related to the week's material. You may have an opportunity to discuss
homework, although The TA willl not solve homework problems for you.
Discussion is required; participation is 10% of your grade.
- There will be a homework assignment each week. It is due (in the P486 box) by 5 PM
on Friday. Homework assignments are posted on the
Syllabus. Solutions will be posted there as well.
Homework is 45% of your grade.
There will be a 50% penalty for late homework. Late
homework may be submitted until 5 PM the following Monday. Homework will not be
accepted after that.
- The midterm exam will be in class (March 8). It is
15% of your grade.
The final exam will be 1:30 - 4:30 PM on Friday, May 6. It is 30% of
your grade.
If you cannot attend a class or complete your homework due to illness or other valid excuse, please give the McKinley slip (or other note) to Cindy Hubert.
