Physics
214 General Information
Fall 2007
World
Wide Web Information:
- This
couse uses the WWW for many aspects, including homework, gradebook, and storage
of all lecture slides and most class handouts.
- You need
to become familiar with the Web, and to have access to a fairly recent web
browser (for example Netscape 3.0). This is available on computers at CCSO and
housing division computer sites.
- Greek
letters and other symbols:
- Many
homework pages use symbol font for mathematical equations. Without the
symbol font, equations will be difficult to read, e.g. you will see "p"
instead of "π". Symbol font is usually available on Macs and PCs without
any special effort. Unix systems must be correctly configured. The Engineering
College workstations were reconfigured in January, 1998. Contact your
site administrator, if you are having difficulty.
- Your
browser must also be configured properly. If your browser displays any
Greek letters or other symbols in these pages incorrectly, try adjusting
your fonts preferences. In recent versions of Netscape, click Edit; click
Preferences; click Appearance; click Fonts; click Use document-specified
fonts. This should cause the homeworks, etc. to display correctly.
- You can
find the Physics 214 home page using the URL http://online.physics.uiuc.edu/courses/phys214.
