Course Grading
Your grade will be based on your performance on the homework
assignments,
the final exam, the two midterm exams, the preflights, and the problem
sessions. The approximate weight assigned to each part of your
grade
is:
- Homework and quizzes
will count for 25% of your grade.
- The Final exam will be worth 25%.
- The sum of the two midterm exams will count for 30%.
- Your term paper will
count for 20%.

Homework
- Homework is an important part of this course and will be
assigned regularaly.
- Homework sets will be assigned on Wednesday of each week.
- The assignments will be due the following Wednesday.
- Homework sets can be turned in during lectures, or placed in
the 150
homework box (located on the north side of Loomis Lab, between
rooms
267 and 271 LLP) by 11am on the day of the due date.
- Solutions will be posted on Wednesdays, a week after the
due date
(unless
otherwise announced).
- Unless a valid, verifyable excuse is given, homework
sets
which
are submitted late will receive a 15% penalty per day, up to a maximum
penalty of 60%. Homework sets which are turned in more than 6 days late
will
receive no credit.
Quizzes
- Short quizzes will be given in class.
- The quizzes will cover reading assignments and material discussed
in class.
- The quiz grade will be calculated by dropping the two worst quiz
scores.

- The short, written description of your topic along with
references is due on Monday, November 15.
- The complete term paper is due on Monday, December 6.
Surveys
- After the first midterm I will post a survey with questions
on
all
aspects of the class.
- The survey will remain open for about a week.
- Your input is welcome. Please respond with your comments.
Academic Integrity
The giving of assistance to or receiving of assistance from
another
person, or the use of unauthorized materials during University
Examinations
can be grounds for disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion
from
the University.
Please be aware that prior to or during an examination the
instructional
staff may wish to rearrange the student seating. Such action does not
mean
that anyone is suspected of inappropriate behavior.
